This shows that she's actually as sensitive, caring, and emotional as Fluttershy on the inside, she just really doesn't like showing it to others. well this episode is the final straw for that doubt. Beneath the Mask: If, by this point, anyone was still doubting that Rainbow's "dumb, tough, emotionless" exterior she presented (especially in the early seasons) was a façade.Behind the Black: After Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie's argument, Rainbow seems unaware the rest of the Mane Six are right in front of her watching them until the camera angle flips to her perspective. In addition to cartoony Ocular Gushers, there are jokes between all of the crying about how Applejack cries on the inside, and the over-the-top nature of Rainbow's bawling is meant to cause some awkward laughter. Bathos: The scene where Rainbow Dash starts crying is a mixture of sadness and humor.Rabbits and tree squirrels are shown as examples of hibernating animals in Fluttershy's book.Cold-blooded animals don't shiver when cold. Similarly, Tank is seen shivering at one point during "I'll Fly".The characters keep stating tortoises "hibernate" when hibernation is practiced only by warm-blooded animals.Rainbow's Comical Angry Face and her Slasher Smile are two expressions the first season didn't have the power to animate.Cloudsdale and Rainbow Dash's house look a lot more detailed than they did previously. All There in the Script: Out of the three arguing Cloudsdale weather ponies, Sunshower is the only one who is unnamed in the episode, but in the credits.Airvent Passageway: Rainbow and Tank sneak into the weather factory this way.Rainbow Dash: It's best to accept nature the way it goes, and it's not worth it to try and change it. Rainbow's friends try to console her, but Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy all end up crying too. This causes Rainbow to burst into tears, sobbing that she doesn't want Tank to go. Finally, Fluttershy bluntly tells Rainbow that she'll have to spend the winter without her pet. When the rest of the Mane Six arrive to cheer her up, their attempts are met with immediate dismissal by Rainbow. The weather factory launches a massive snowball toward Ponyville, instantly blanketing it in snow upon impact.Īt her home, a depressed Rainbow Dash lies disconsolately with Tank on her bed. The rest of the factory workers attempt to get things back under control, but it's too late. She ties Tank's leash to a large magnifying glass to keep him out of trouble, but while she's draining the water, Tank's lethargic flying causes the magnifying glass to be sucked into a fan, which starts a massive chain reaction. There, she decides that the most effective way to sabotage winter is to drain all the water from the cloud-making machine so it can't make any more. She sneaks into the city's weather factory with Tank during the workers' lunch break, making it all the way to the winter lab. As she looks up into the sky in frustration, Cloudsdale catches her eye, giving her the idea to stop winter at its source. Rainbow does her best to revert Ponyville back to fall, but she quickly finds that she can't keep up with the many ponies working to bring winter as scheduled. Thinking it over at home, Rainbow eventually decides that if Tank needs the heat to stay awake, she'll just have to stop winter from coming. Frustrated and angry, Rainbow continues trying to push Tank to stay awake, despite the protests of her friends that Tank needs his sleep. Refusing to believe it, Rainbow asks Spike for a second opinion, who tells her that even though he doesn't know anything about hibernation himself, he trusts Fluttershy's judgment. Rainbow takes Tank to Fluttershy, who tells Rainbow that Tank has to hibernate for the winter and will wake up in the spring. However, Tank seems lethargic and sleepy, even more so than usual. As the Running of the Leaves starts the preparations for winter to arrive, Rainbow Dash excitedly starts planning her first winter with her pet tortoise, Tank. The sky city of Cloudsdale begins to float over Ponyville, a signal that it's time for winter to come.
